COMMERICIAL
The National Research Council of Canada
Challenge:
The National Research Council of Canada discovered that there was
some unprotected foam insulation located in one of their buildings
that housed laboratories. O'Reilly Brothers Limited was commissioned
to install a fire barrier on unprotected foam insulation to meet
Ontario Building Code without interrupting the employees working
in the laboratory.
Solution:
This was accomplished by sealing the work area where the fireproofing
needed to be applied. Caution was taken to ensure that the employee
work area was not disturbed and that the employees had ample workspace.
O'Reilly Brothers Limited applied the fireproofing using a smaller
application machine, while this increased the application time it
allowed the installer to apply the fireproofing in a more precise
manner creating less mess and the smaller application machine also
required less work space.
Results:
O'Reilly Brothers Limited was able to bring the fire protection
of the building up to the current standards of the Building Code
with minimal disturbance to the staff and without having to close
any of the laboratories. This resulted in a cost efficient solution.
